Medicare Savings Program (MSP)

What is MSP and why do I care?

Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs) are state-run Medicaid initiatives that help low-income Medicare beneficiaries pay for premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. In Alabama, if your MSP application is approved, your Part B premium will be paid on your behalf as well as automatically qualify you for "Extra Help" with Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage.

How do I qualify?

The MSP in Alabama is income based, meaning you qualify by meeting income requirements.

These income limits usually change every February.

Currently, the rates for 2025 are as follows:

  • Individual less than $1,781 gross monthly income.
  • Married less than $2,400 combined gross monthly income.
